Special offer on New Calf Rehydration Therapy
Ceva Animal Health have launched Rehydrion, a novel treatment for calf dehydration due to scour.

It is a concentrated liquid in an easy to use squeezy dispensing bottle. As it does not interfere with the milk clot in the calf’s stomach, it can be added to milk.

Giving powders like Lifeaid extra mixed in water rehydrates the calf but it also starves it, slowing down the calf’s recovery. Manufacturers have tried to improve this by adding special sugars. This adds expense but is a poor substitute for milk. Using Rehydrion in milk corrects dehydration and continues to feed the calf.

This new product comes at a reasonable price. One bottle is the equivalent of 8 sachets of Lifeaid extra and costs approximately £12. If you purchase 4 bottles at once, they cost £40 and, until stocks last, come with a free calf teat feeder bucket worth about £12.

Cephaguard Dry Cow
Many of you are using Cephaguard Lactating Cow tubes and you may have seen adverts for Cephaguard Dry Cow tubes.

The antibiotic in these tubes is similar to that found in Cepravin and is claimed to penetrate deep into the tissue of the udder improving the clearance of chronic infection during the dry period.

A recent screening of individual cows with high cell counts in the UK has shown that Strep. uberis is the most common cause. This bacteria is difficult to treat in the lactation leading to high cell counts and recurrent clinical cases.

Cephaguard Dry Cow costs the same as Cepravin, is licensed to last 49 days and has a one day milk withdrawal thereafter.
