Bovine Viral Diarrhoea is extremely common in both dairy and beef herds. It is well known for causing abortion and infertility and it has a big effect on calf health and productivity.

In Orkney, where eradication of BVD is well under way, farmers have seen healthier stock and better profits as BVD free herds now sell stock at a premium.

Because we think BVD control is a very important part of improving your profits we are offering free visits and free blood testing of five calves (5-9 months old). If calves of this age have BVD antibodies, you can be sure that BVD is present in your herd; and knowing the status of your herd is the first step to controlling the disease.
