Mojo - Tibetan Terrier Puppy with Broken Leg
Photo: Mojo arriving Mojo is a 6-month-old Tibetan Terrier puppy. She was playing with her friends when she collided with a wall and broke her leg. When she arrived at the surgery she was very brave and let Liz, the vet, gently look at her front right leg. It was held at a strange angle and was very sore.

Mojo was given a sedative and x-rayed. This showed a fracture of the radius and ulna, the 2 bones in the forearm, just above the carpus [or wrist]. The type of break she suffered is particular to young animals.

At the ends of her bones she has growth plates, which is the place that bones grow from. This soft area of bone is a weak point that breaks easier than mature mineralised bone. Her leg was bandaged and she was given painkillers to keep her comfy overnight.

X-ray - pins in mojos leg

The next day she was given a general anaesthetic and her broken bones where put back in line. Two pins where inserted in a cross formation to hold everything in place until it healed.

Fortunately, because she is young, she should heal very quickly and be back playing with her friends. Lets hope she can stop before the wall next time!!

Stop Press!! Mojo has made a full and uneventful recovery.
