The Challenge
On the 17th February 2006 Nick will be setting off to Tanzania to
attempt to trek up Africas highest mountain. Starting at 5,500
feet in the warm dusty plains at around 30C the party will ascend
through rain forest, to areas of volcanic outcrops in carpets of
heathers and helicrysums, then through alpine tundra and finally
arctic sub zero conditions at the summit crater rim.
As the highest freestanding volcano in the world Kilimanjaro has
a permanent ice cap with regular snow falls - although with global
warming the ice is gradually shrinking.

Vetaid
The aim of this trek is to raise funds for the small Scottish based
charity Vetaid.
With a logo that reads Healthy animals, healthy people,
Vetaid
aims to raise the health and standard of living of small scale farmers
by addressing the veterinary and husbandry needs of their livestock.
Much of their work involves the training of local people to become
animal health workers who can then assist in vaccination
programmes and helping their fellow farmers.
